The IUPAT District Council 78 is a skilled labor organization who represents and supports the craft persons in the workplace and in our community. We are also known as the "Painters Union" or simply "The Painters" throughout the building trades in the United States and Canada. Our mission is to bring un-organized employers to the negotiating table to discuss and commit in writing to their workers for fair and competitive Wage Rates, Safe and effective working conditions for employees, Benefits that include a Health Care Plan, a meaningful Retirement Plan and fringe benefits like paid leave. A clearly written and defined grievance process that is fair and just for the workers.
A Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) is a written contract that is enforceable in court or through "Binding Arbitration". This contract guarantees specific protections for workers who are covered by the CBA. These protections include wage rates, pay raises, how overtime is distributed among the workforce, promotions and advancement, safety and the trade craft continuing education. These protections also include paid time off (PTO), layoffs and recall methods as well as many other aspects of how employees are treated in their workplace. The CBA outlines a specific process regarding how an employer handles matters that effect the worker(s) and their families. If a dispute arises by a management decision that conflict with the CBA then the union can take legal action on behalf of the worker(s) to resolve the conflict..
